My first turkey!!

Thanksgiving for us has never really been about turkey. We celebrate with together-ness and hot pot!!

This year, I decided to make an attempt at my first turkey... (I don't cook very often).
I was super gung ho about the idea of making my own turkey and trying to be more home-y that I bought the turkey 3 weeks in advance. I also found a roaster oven for sale at Wal-Mart for $24.99. A deal I could not pass up!!

Thanksgiving morning: 6am
I wanted to get everything prepped in time for lunch so I woke up bright and early (Yawn! I'm definitely not an early bird!). I tried to wake up my sister for some guidance but she was out COLD! The show must go on so I started on turkey.

My team lead has been giving me tips in preparation for my glorious moment so I picked up the bird and started washing. I never knew how heavy 18 pounds could be. I followed my Pinterest recipe and I rubbed the seasoning, olive oil, and butter all over. I took my team lead's advice and rubbed seasoning under the skin. I didn't add enough to the outside so I generously added more.

We popped it in the roaster oven and waited 4.5 hours. As we waited we prepped for our hot pot. We chopped beef, lettuce, peeled shrimp, and washed mushrooms. We even roasted potatoes!

Everything came out superb! The turkey was a hit and we finished the entire bird. We shared with my kitty cats as well. I made time for a nap and then went out for some guilt-tripped shopping!!

I loved having all of us together.. we even had time for a family selfie! I am thankful for family, friends, and the good Lord above!

Yet another conclusion to a great quickie! Short getaways are the best!!! Until next time..
DON'T forget to share and subscribe:)
❤always, Christine
